The .SE country-code top-level domain was created in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very small number of domains were obtained. Persons were allowed to purchase no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. only Swedish individuals, businesses and organizations could acquire a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened notably and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.
